Rob and K9 Liberty
K9 Liberty mitigates several tasks for Rob. She is trained for PTSD, Mobility Assist, & Seizure Response. She also alerts him to oncoming seizures; this is not a trainable task.
Rob and his wife, Carrie travel quite a bit. Their story is best told in pictures, but does require a bit of text for some brags. The photo with the WWP van is from a trip to a Couples Retreat with WWP. Liberty was said to be one of the finest Service Dogs they've encountered. Kudos to What's Up Dog? for their fantastic selection and training.
K9 Liberty started training with the team at What's Up Dog? when she was 7 months old. She came to them from a farm where she initially began training for Border Patrol as a detector dog, from 6-weeks of age. She was phenomenal, but was not likely going to pass the required testing that was needed for work on the border. Her desire for working was there, but her hunt drive was not as strong as it needed to be. Since she was only doing drive building and not odor imprinting, What's Up Dog? decided to purchase LIberty and her sister Koda.
At nearly 2-years old, the decision was made for her to be to bred because of her amazing temperament, her desire to work, and her fantastic physical condition and appearance. A suitable male was chosen, and they produced a litter of what is referred to as genius puppies. What's Up Dog? imprinted them for the world. They are social, problem solvers, and have no environmental issues. They are all absolutely amazing, with a couple that are suitable for training to be Service Dogs, another as a Tech-Detector for Homeland Security, and a few that will be fantastic pets with higher than average drives.
It seems like Liberty has been everywhere since she was paired with Rob. She has gone to Washington DC for a visit to Walter Reed Army Hospital where Rob was participating in preliminary selection for the Warrior Games. She has also been to a Symposium on Service Dogs at the Capitol. Follow along her journey through the photos below. Be sure to see the captions. This video shows early exercises at the What's Up Dog? training facility.
